Update 2021-08-04: On Wednesday morning (04 August, local time), several firefighting planes and helicopters were deployed to fight the fire near the Greek capital Athens. Due to the current weather conditions and heavy smoke, the air quality in the Greek capital is reduced, local authorities called on residents to stay at home and keep windows and doors closed. Currently, the country’s authorities count 40 major forest fires on the Peloponnese and the islands of Rhodes, Kos and Euboea.
