Update 2022-03-29 (4): On Tuesday (29 March), Russian forces shelled the military airfield in the town of Starokostyantyniv in the north-west of the country. A fuel and lubricant depot of the Ukrainian military was destroyed. According to reports, no one was killed or injured by the shelling. In the capital Kiev, around 40 rockets fired by Russian forces hit residential areas in the past 24 hours. Meanwhile, the evacuation plan initiated by the French President for the city of Mariupol in the south of the country could not yet be realised.
Update 2022-03-29 (3): According to further reports on Tuesday (29 March), at least seven people were killed and 22 others injured by shelling of the regional administration in the city of Mykolaiv in the south of the country. At the peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in the Turkish city of Istanbul, the Russian Defence Ministry announced that it would reduce its military activities near the Ukrainian capital Kiev and in the city of Chernihiv.
Update 2022-03-29 (2): The regional administration building in the city of Mykolaiv was reportedly destroyed by Russian shelling. At least two people are said to have been killed. In addition, the Ukrainian army is said to have pushed back Russian units near the southern Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih. Thus, parts of the Russian armed forces had retreated from the Dnipropetrovsk region to the neighbouring Kherson. According to Russian information, 68 Ukrainian military objects have been destroyed since Monday (28 March). In addition, a missile attack on a fuel depot in the Rivne region was confirmed by Russian authorities. With regard to the evacuation of civilians, three escape corridors are planned for Tuesday (29 March). One is to allow civilians in Mariupol to travel to Zaporizhzhya via Berdyansk. Two further corridors have been agreed for Enerhodar and the city of Melitopol.
Update 2022-03-29 (1): According to their own statements, the Ukrainian armed forces are trying to stop the advance of Russian troops near the large city of Slowyansk in the Donetsk region and near the small town of Barvinkov in the Kharkiv region. In the Luhansk region, they are trying to contain Russian attacks around the towns of Rubishne, Lysychansk and Popasna. Regular battles are reported from there. Ukrainian forces are also able to withstand attacks in Chernihiv and around the port city of Mariupol. Around Kyiv, the situation is under control in Motyshyn, Lisne, Kapitanivka and Dmytrivka. In Sumy, Kharkiv and the Donbass, however, the situation is difficult. In addition, there had been no damage to the nuclear material at the recently shelled nuclear research facility in Kharkiv.
