2022-05-17: A countrywide general strike of public sector employees will take place on Tuesday (31 May). In addition, several Belgian railway unions have announced their participation in the general strike. According to media reports, there will be smaller strike actions in the public sector already from 19 May.
Heightened security measures as well as disruptions to traffic and public life are to be expected. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to strictly avoid demonstrations, road blockades, large gatherings, and deployments of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
