Update 2023-01-26: According to reports from Thursday (26 January), a level red heavy snow warning is currently in place in Joetsu in Niigata through Friday afternoon (27 January, local time). Snowfall has been forecast through Friday (27 Janaury) throughout most of central and northern Japan as well. It has been reported that at least five people have died as a result of heavy snowfall in the last few days and over 30 people were injured in Kyoto. Reportedly, around 400 homes experienced power outages as a result of the storm.
