2023-12-19: Many people sustained injuries on Monday (18 December) at around 2 am (local time) following a mob attack during a ‘Buddha Katha’ event at Pahewa village of Kanpur Nagar District in Uttar Pradesh State. Reportedly, rods, sticks, and firearms were used, and the security officials arrested several people following the attack. Moreover, at least one statue was also damaged following the attack.
Heightened security measures and operations of security forces are to be expected. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to strictly avoid demonstrations, road blockades, large gatherings, and deployments of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
