Sri Lanka, Strike, Level 3: 24-hour strike by railroad workers throughout the country from 5 March – Sri Lanka

2024-03-05: According to reports from Tuesday (5 March), employees of the Sri Lankan railroad company will be on strike for at least 24 hours from midnight on Tuesday (5 March, local time) throughout the country. Some unions representing locomotive drivers, train conductors and railroad supervisors will also take part in the strike. The background to the strike is a planned pay cut.
In case of a strike, major traffic disruptions are to be expected. Delays and cancellations are likely. Before and after official strike hours, disruptions are also possible due to organisational reasons. Passengers are advised to contact their tour operator about the current status in advance to their journey and to schedule additional time for their journey.
