2024-07-07: According to the sources from Sunday (7 July), violent clashes between security officials and demonstrators were reported during demonstrations following the parliamentary elections in several areas of the country. The affected areas are Paris, Lille, Rennes, Nantes and Vilaine. Reportedly, wooden barricades were set on fire during the clashes by the demonstrators, and they threw fireworks at security forces; the security forces then used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators. At least one security officer was also injured in Nantes. Moreover, dozens of people were also detained.
Heightened security measures and operations of security forces are to be expected. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to strictly avoid demonstrations, road blockades, large gatherings, and deployments of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
