Update 2024-08-12 (3): According to reports, Ukrainian forces claim to have taken a total of 1,000 square kilometres of territory in Kursk under their control as of Monday (12 August). Authorities in Kursk have stated that Ukrainian forces had seized control of around half of that amount of territory. Neither claim has yet been independently verified. Ukrainian forces continue their offensive in the region.

Update 2024-08-12 (2): On Monday (12 August), the first official statements were made about the Ukrainian incursion into the western border regions of Russia: according to a statement by the governor of Kursk, 121,000 people have already ben evacuated from the affected areas, an approximate 59,000 more will follow soon. Most recently, 14,000 people in the Belovsky district had to leave their homes. At least 28 localities are under Ukrainian control. According to further Russian reports, at least 12 civilians have been killed in the current fighting in Kursk and Belgorod and at least 121 others are said to have been injured. In the Belgorod region, at least seven villages were shelled overnight (local time).

Update 2024-08-12 (1): According to recent media reports, the Russian authorities began evacuating the population of the Krasnoyaruzhsky district (Belgorod region) near the border to the interior of the country on Monday (12 August).
