Update 2024-12-17: According to information from Tuesday (17 December), the fighting around the city of Kobani in the north of the country is continuing to intensify. There are also power cuts and restrictions on the water supply. Pro-Turkish troops have blocked most transport links between the city and the surrounding area.
Contrary to these developments, the United States announced on Tuesday evening (17 December, local time) that a ceasefire between the pro-Turkish and Kurdish groups in the vicinity of Manbij had been reached again, which should apply until at least the end of the week.
Meanwhile, the leader of the armed rebel forces that have captured Damascus announced that the new central government would ultimately also want to control the contested areas in the north of the country.
