Myanmar, Earthquake, Level 5: Very Strong magnitude 7.7 M earthquake at depth 10.0 km – Myanmar [Update 1]

Update 2025-03-28: The magnitude 7.7 quake was followed slightly to the north by a magnitude 6.4 quake in Sagaing. According to initial unofficial damage reports, several buildings in the city of Mandalay were destroyed. Officially, there is still no information on the extent of the damage.

2025-03-28: A very strong earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 M occurred in Sagaing near Mandalay on Friday (28 March).
Earthquakes of this magnitude cause severe damage to buildings and infrastructure. Buildings may collapse and substantial disruptions of power- and water supply, telephone services and traffic are to be expected. The infrastructure is likely to be disrupted over several days.
Travellers should closely follow instructions of local authorities. Aftershocks are to be expected, and can cause further damage to buildings and infrastructure.
