2022-11-01: Several trade unions in Belgium have called for a nationwide general strike on Wednesday (9 November). The union federation is demanding, among other things, a gas price and electricity cap as well as wage increases. There may be considerable disruptions at the country’s airports and on train services as a result of the strike.
Heightened security measures as well as disruptions to traffic and public life are to be expected. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to strictly avoid demonstrations, road blockades, large gatherings, and deployments of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
