Update 2023-02-08 (2): According to reports from Wednesday (8 February), the death toll from the earthquake has risen to over 11,700, with around 9,057 deaths being reported across the provinces of Kahramanmaras, Gaziantep, Sanliurfa, Diyarbakir, Adana, Adiyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis, Malatya, and Elazig in Türkiye alone. Around 53,000 injuries have been reported in Türkiye as well and it has been reported that more than 64,000 buildings collapsed as a result of the earthquake. It has been reported that a limited number of passenger flights are operating from airports in Adana, Sanliurfa, Adiyaman, Elazig, Diyarbakir and Gaziantep. Reportedly, the demand for these flights is very high and therefore delays are to be expected at the airports. According to the organisation Netblocks, access to Twitter has been restricted countrywide and there have been reports that it cannot be accessed even with a VPN.
Update 2023-02-08 (1): On Wednesday (8 February), it was reported that in the city of Iskenderun, buildings on the coastal road were evacuated as several streets in the area were flooded. Experts suspect that the earthquake caused parts of the city to sink, flooding them with seawater. It was also reported that at least 50,000 people have so far been brought to safety by Turkish Airlines evacuation flights.
