2024-05-08: According to sources from Wednesday (8 May), at least one person died, and multiple people were injured as violent protests erupted at the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Chaman, Balochistan Province, over new visa rules as demonstrators attempted to attack and enter an FC post near the border. Security forces were also injured as protesters besieged the building and pelted stones. The demonstrations have also led to the blockade of the Quetta-Chaman Road at Khojak Pass, leaving hundreds of trucks carrying trade goods stranded on both sides.
Heightened security measures and operations of security forces are to be expected. Violent clashes between protesters and security forces are possible. Travellers are advised to exercise caution, to strictly avoid demonstrations, road blockades, large gatherings, and deployments of security forces, and to follow instructions from security forces.
