Japan, Severe Weather, Level 5: Typhoon Ampil to hit Bonin and Izu Islands from 14/15 August; Tokyo Metropolitan Area to be affected from 16 August – Japan [Update 5]

Update 2024-08-16: On Friday morning (16 August, local time), bullet train services were canceled in significant parts of the country, including the busy section between Tokyo and the central city of Nagoya, due to tropical storm Ampil. Reportedly, thousands of people were without power in the prefectures near Tokyo. The typhoon is not expected to make landfall, instead, it is moving along the coastline near the Tokyo region.
