Update 2021-08-08 (3): On Sunday (08 August), 349 people were evacuated from the island of Euboea. Currently there are two fronts of the fire at Galatsona and Gouves. Residents of Gouves, Artemisio, Kastri, Vouliki and Pefki have been asked to leave the area.
Update 2021-08-08 (2): Due to the forest fires, there are power outages in the north of Athens. At least 1300 electricity poles have been burnt or damaged and need to be replaced. The water supply has also not yet been fully restored. According to the electricity company in the affected area, it may take up to 15 days before electricity flows everywhere.
Update 2021-08-08 (1): According to current media reports on Sunday morning (08 August, local time), flames are raging with unabated intensity in almost all fire areas in Greece. In the north of the second largest Greek island, Euboea, the situation remains critical. The situation on the Peloponnese peninsula was also out of control on Sunday morning (08 August, local time). The most dangerous fire raged there south of the small town of Megalopolis. Another fire spread from the west of the island near Olympia further and further into the densely forested mountainous Arcadia in the interior of the peninsula.
