Update 2021-08-26 (2): According to further reports at least 210 people were killed over several days of ethnic violence. Forces affiliated with the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) rebel group killed more than 150 people in Gida-Kirimu in the Oromiya region from 18 August. In the subsequent days more than 60 people were killed in ethnic based revenge killings aimed against the Oromia ethnic group. In August the OLA rebel group had entered into an alliance with the TPLF rebels fighting in the north of the country.
Update 2021-08-26 (1):According to media reports from Thursday (26 August), Ethiopia’s government affiliated Ethiopian Human Rights Commission claims that during the last week more than 150 civilians have been killed in rebel attacks in the Oromiya region in the west of the country. Additionally, there have also been reports of massacres in the Amhara and Afar regions.
